Barangay San Jose Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman Doc Monte Tolentino said he was grateful for the chance to join the celebration: “Himala sa Colaique 2023” which is the 78th Anniversary of miraculous journey to Colaique and to safety of the townspeople of Antipolo.

“Viva La Virgen!

The procession started at dawn at the Antipolo Cathedral, travelled the city streets and then went through mountain trails culminating with the celebration of a mass at Colaique.

The Colaique miracle is one of the most important events in the history of Antipolo. It is the story of how the city’s beloved patron, the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, saved the townsfolk during World War II.

The Old Antipolo Church as well as the whole town was used as barracks by the Japanese Army during the war. The Americans bombarded the town, totally destroying the historic cathedral.

To find safety, 500 townsfolk left Antipolo and took with them the Image of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage.

The survivors of the war believed that The Virgin kept them safe. With American artillery pounding the city the townsfolk eventually travelled through the towns of Angono, Santolan and Marikina.
