As the pandemic ensues this 2021, the global health care system is continually treating the same diseases prior Covid-19. Unfortunately, donor centers saw a steep decline in blood donations since last year due to restricted movements and stay-home orders by governments around the world. Still, supplies at blood banks remain crucial as many patients depend on blood transfusions for their treatments.
At SM, most blood-letting activities of SM Foundation were put on hold due to the pandemic but the social good arm of the SM Group still managed to collect 1,115 bags of blood as of October 12, 2020, which benefitted 3,345 patients – one bag benefitting three patients when processed.
This February and March 2021, the blood donation drive pursues in SM Supermalls including SM Center Angono, SM City Masinag, SM Cherry Antipolo and SM City San Mateo in the province of Rizal. Partnering again with Philippine Red Cross and Philippine Blood Center, SM hopes to encourage shoppers in the mall and its employees to donate blood and help replenish the depleting supply at both blood centers.
Here are the following schedules of the blood donation drives:
• February 24, 2021 – SM Center Angono, 3rd Level
• March 2, 2021 – SM City Masinag, 2nd Level
• March 3, 2021 – SM Cherry Antipolo, 3rd Level
• March 4, 2021 – SM City San Mateo, 3rd Level
The Blood Donation program is open from 10:00AM to 5:00PM on mentioned schedules per mall. Health protocols shall strictly be implemented at donation areas including temperature checks, physical distancing, bed sanitation every after use and limited number of donors and staff at a given time.
