Rizal Governor Nina Ynares, Antipolo Mayor Jun Ynares III, and the rest of the mayors of Rizal expressed strong support for Senator Pia Cayetano during a meeting to discuss shared advocacies on health, education, and women empowerment.
Local leaders cited Senator Pia’s key contributions to Rizal’s development, including support for health facilities, educational programs, and family-centered initiatives.
The veteran lawmaker has been serving as Senator since 2019. She previously held the position from 2004 to 2016. She was also the Representative of Taguig’s 2nd district from 2016 to 2019 and was one of the Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives.
Cayetano’s most notable legislation include the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, Expanded Breastfeeding Promoting Act, the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012, and the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) Law.
Cayetano is also a lawyer, economist, former athlete and former television host.
She was born to a political family based in Taguig. Her father was the late former Senator Rene Cayetano. Her younger brother, Alan Peter, is a fellow incumbent senator who formerly represented the Taguig–Pateros district and became Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines during the 18th Congress.
