Motocross or MX is a dirt-bike racing competition where riders compete on off-road courses of gravel and mud. This sport is not just riders competing against each other. The rider competes against himself as much as against the course because the road itself is a huge obstacle to beat.
Motocross or MX competition has a long and storied tradition. It started in the United Kingdom in the early 1900s where the race evolved into regular off-road events.
Ordinary motorcycles, used for road travel, were first used in the races. The first major innovation came when motorcycles specifically designed for the sport were first introduced into competition.
The sport really took off in popularity after the first stadium motocross race was held in the US. Motocross took off from there and has grown into a popular world-wide sport.
