San Jose SK Chairman Doc Monte Tolentino thanked Mayor Jun-Andeng Ynares as well as the parents of infants being baptized, for the privilege to stand as godfather or ‘Ninong’ to their children receiving the blessed Sacrament of baptism.
“Salamat po sa mga parents sa pagkakataon na ipinagkaloob ninyo sa akin. Thank you rin po Mayor Jun-Andeng Ynares. Ang wish ko po sa aking mga inaanak ay nawa maging masipag kayo sa buhay, maging mapagmahal sa magulang at kapwa, at mabuhay kayo ng may takot sa Diyos,” said Tolentino.
Former mayor Andeng Ynares represented husband Mayor Jun Ynares at the ceremony officiated by Shrine Rector, Rev. Fr. Reynante U. Tolentino celebrated at the Antipolo Cathedral.
Baptism is a Sacrament of the Catholic Church, instituted by Christ. By Baptism all enter the Church, where they are nourished in faith and life. Sacraments are signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, through which Divine life is given.
Oh, and Ninongs are expected to gifts (token or otherwise) to their godchildren and spread cheer during Christmas time.
“Love kayo ni #NinongMonte. Kita-kits sa Pasko? Smile tayo,” said Tolentino to the parents and guardians.
Baptism is an important sacrament because Jesus was baptized, and after his resurrection he told his disciples that they too should be baptized. Jesus also commanded his disciples to use the act of baptism to welcome new disciples into the Church.
Tolentino was thankful for the trust accorded him.
