Floristry competition of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) 1st CALABARZON (Calamba Laguna Batangas Rizal Quezon) Regional Skills Competition was held at The Penthouse Events Place, Emraud Square Plaza, Sen. Lorenzo Sumulong Memorial Circle, Antipolo City.
The lone competitor in the category is Merielle Bulay-og of Rizal. Judging her work is TESDA expert Mary Rose Vergara and external expert Concepcion Obcena.
Bulay-og confessed her inexperience in skills competitions. She said she was both worried, excited and just thankful to be participating.
“Masaya na nakakakaba na nandito na ako. Unexpected po kasi na nanalo ako sa Provincial at makarating dito sa Regional. First time po kasi na lumaban po ako sa mga ganito. Nakakakaba po talaga. At saka mas nakaka pressure po dahil mag isa lang po ako na nag qualify dito sa regional competition ng Calabarzon,” said Bulay-og.
“Sa pagbuo po ng bridal design ang mahirap na gawin Ksilangan po kasi hindi po Makita yung foam. Kailangan lagyan po siya ng fillers para maganda.”
Being a lone candidate does not mean to Bulay-og will automatically qualify to the national competition. She will still need to meet the criteria set by the pair of experts selected to judge her work.
The Penthouse at the top floor of Emraud Square Plaza is a popular events and gathering place where wedding receptions and other celebrations can be held.
The Cooking competition will be held at the PACE Technology and Arts also at the Emraud Square Plaza.
Other competitions are in 3D Digital Game Art, Autobody Repair, Automobile Technology, CNC Maintenance, CNC Milling, Cyber Security, Electrical Installations, and Electronics.
There will also be competition in Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, Heavy Vehicle Technology, Hotel Reception, Industrial Automation, Information Network Cabling, and Network Systems Administration.
Participants also will compete in IT Software Solution for Business, Landscaping Gardening, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Mechatronics, Patisserie and Confectionery, Plumbing and Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Restaurant Services, Web Technologies, and Welding. The competition is held in partnership with the Association of Technical-Vocational Institutions of Rizal (ATVIR Inc.) and the Trainers and Assessors of Rizal Association (TARA Inc.).
