Converge FiberXers leaned on the hot hands of Fil-Am guard Maverick Ahanmisi to beat the Terrafirma Dyip, 97-84, in the 2022 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena, Wednesday, July 22, 2022.
Ahanmisi ignited the blazing finish of the FiberXers draining four treys in the fourth period including a dagger three-pointer with 2:24 to go which pushed his team to an 86-81 lead as Converge finished the game pulling away.
“Mav’s a vet. So, he’s one of the guys that we are relying on heavily to carry us. So, with our young core, we want him to step up in all aspects, not just on the court,” said Converge Head Coach Jeff Cariaso of the seven-year veteran.
Ahanmisi finished with 17 points on five three-pointers to go with eight rebounds and eight assists.
Converge guard Mike DiGregorio scored a team-high 18 points. David Murrell finished with a career-high 15 points to grab Player of the Game honors. Justin Arana added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Browne chipped in 10 points.
Converge star forward Jeron Teng, who was resting a bruised hip, sat out the game. The team hardly missed his services with Ahanmisi, Murrell and DiGregorio stepping up.
The FiberXers thus bounced back from back-to-back losses to MVP teams TNT Tropang Giga and Meralco Bolts to improve to 2 wins and 3 losses. Terrafirma skidded to its fourth straight loss.
