Rizal Province residents helped power the Philippine Men’s Beach Handball team to a silver medal finish at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The team included two Antipolo City residents in Tomas Luis Telan and Dhane Miguelle Varela. Van Jacob Baccay of Morong and Rey Joshua Tabuzo of Cainta were the other two Rizal Province residents.

Other players are Jamel Pangandaman, John Michael Pasco, Andrew Harris, Josef Maximillan Valdez, Mark Vincent Dubouzet, Manuel Lasangue, Jr. and Daryoush Zandi.

The team improved on its bronze-medal performance in the 2019 SEA Games held in the Philippines.

They are coached by Aurora Adriano and Luzviminda Pacubas. Joanna Franquelli was with them.

The Philippines posted a 3-1 record through their first four matches in beach handball. They opened their campaign with a 2-0 win against Thailand – the silver medalist in the 2019 SEA Games – lost to reigning gold medalist Vietnam via a 0-2 sweep but recovered with a 2-0 win against Singapore and a 2-1 victory over Thailand.

They lost again to Vietnam 1-2 but salvaged the silver with another 2-0 victory over Singapore.
